Speaker
Andrew Hello, fellow watch lovers, nerds, enthusiasts, or however you identify. You're listening to 40 in 20, the Watch Clicker podcast with your hosts, Andrew and my good friend Everett. Here, we talk about watches, food, drinks, life, and other things we like. Everett, how are you?
Everett I'm doing well, Andrew. I'm considering whether or not to have alcohol. It's early. We usually record on Sunday mornings, but for whatever reason, this morning feels particularly early. I'd sent you some whiskey links, and then you gave me a hard time for not having brought said whiskey. I was like, well, Andrew, it's 9.30. I'm getting ready for bed. But then you cracked a beer and I was like, well, I mean, we're in Rome.
Andrew Who wants to watch somebody drink alone? That's sad.
Everett I do think it's early for cask strength whiskey, at least for me. But perhaps not early for a beer.
Andrew Perhaps not.
Everett Perhaps not. I do have a Yeti with coffee. The combo is just fine. I can double fist.
Andrew Everyone does that.
Everett No, I'm doing really well. There's been a bit of a change in our weather. And I'm finding it a little weird. We've gotten humid. but also maybe colder but also like more humid so hotter or at least you know the sensation of hotter and everything just feels kind of dank and wet but then there's a breeze that you're like So like you're hot and then you put on a sweatshirt or you like walk and you're like, Oh, I'm overheated. And then you take it off and like instantly cold. Yeah. We only, I mean, we get this sometimes it's, it's not that, it's not that rare, but I've just noticed it in the last couple of days. I planted some sword ferns. I've always wanted to plant sword ferns, Andrew. And so I planted some sword ferns. I do think the soil was a little bit too clay, too much clay. So I may have to dig them up and amend that soil. But I've always wanted sword ferns. And I finally got some. They're not particularly expensive. But they really need a really particular set of conditions. And I think I put them in a place where they're going to thrive.
Andrew I saw you digging those in yesterday and last night I was sitting on the couch and I was like, man, I want to go dig those out. Why would you do that? I just think it'd be really funny for you to come outside to gaze upon your freshly planted plants and just find holes in the ground.
Everett I've given up like a full week of lower back comfort to put those things in the ground. So please don't do that. I'm not going to dig them out now, but I thought about it last night.
Andrew Yeah, that's weird. No, it's not.
Everett You at home, what's the consensus chat? I think that's weird behavior.
Andrew I'd give them back.
Everett We don't have a chat, but I wish that would be kind of fun if we did. Nah. Andrew, how are you?
Andrew I'm good. I had a... A pretty chill weekend. Like kids were in a good mood. And it allowed me to just kind of watch sports that I don't typically get to watch. Love that for you. On the weekend. Why did you do that? I don't know. Don't worry about it. Just experimenting. Just like a Tourette's kid just poured coffee in his lap. It's okay. Don't worry about it. So I watched Chelsea and Manchester United yesterday. A replay from Friday. That was a good game. I watched the Preakness Stakes and I never watch horse racing because...
Everett I'm just going to warn everybody at home. Andrew's having an obscure sports... He's having an obscure sports... Like... Awakening, perhaps? Or phase? Maybe. Yeah. You're having an obscure sports phase. Maybe. Which I'm down for.
Andrew So I watched horse racing yesterday. It was super fun. I love obscure shit. And then I watched... I was woken up this morning entirely too early. And because I was up super early, I watched the F1 race this morning. So I've had like a pretty good... chill weekend of watching things I don't typically get to watch. Love that for you. Yeah. I love that. The horse race was fantastic. Uh, whatever ethical dilemma you have with watching animals, uh, beaten and run a lap. Don't care that horse that one, he, he, man, it was a, it was a thrilling right down to the finish race.
Everett Yeah. I do think, I do think horse racing is, uh, maybe like having like a social moment where people are uncomfortable with it, right?
Andrew I think it's been having that moment for 20 years.
Everett It's like foie gras. Yeah, no, you're probably right. It's like foie gras in the 90s.
Andrew People are still eating it, but they're like... But I mean, dog racing is the same way, except wiener dog racing. People are for some reason okay with that. That's far harder on a dachshund than it is on a greyhound. But yeah, other than that, pretty good. Getting ready to head back to bed and head to work. Yeah. Weekend shit.
Everett Just weekend shit? I like it. I like it. We do have to talk about watches today. We will get there. I remarked as I was going through the material, this week, I don't always do this, but this week, a number of things came across my screen. Across my desk. Across my desk. That's what I was going to say, but that's across my screen that I... I use the Notes app for creating bookmarks. And I saved a handful of things because I was like, oh, I want to remember to talk about this, but I'm not sure I'll remember. But it kept happening. It was like... Like just about every day since we last recorded something, I was like, well, this is interesting. This is interesting. So I think we've got, I don't know, probably two times as much material as we can talk about. Not as much overlap as I thought we were going to have. We had a lot of overlap. We did have a lot of overlap, but there's quite a few things on here that only one of us caught. And so... Oh. No, there are two things. Yeah, it's actually, you know what? I think I was looking at a different... Okay.
Andrew At his other episode show. I'm going to start. We finally have the colorways in the Christopher Ward 12 that we have been asking for. Non-fumé colors. Fume. Fumé.
Everett Fumé, yeah. That was my thought as well. I was like, we talked about this on the show. Yeah. We talked about this on the show. Mike and Mike, thanks for listening. You know, I'm sure that that's where they got this idea.
Andrew That's exactly where they got it from.
Everett So just some background here. I think a lot of times we jump too quickly into the topic and don't explain ourselves. The Christopher Ward released their very, very nice 12 watch, what, a year back, two years back, in titanium models. They did both a 36 and a 40. And each of them had what I think kind of... uh enigmatic 40 enigmatic color fume dials and for me i saw these things and i was like i love this watch i love the idea of this watch but these dials don't do it for me the fume dial just in general not a huge fan of it and and i don't mean that with christopher ward i mean just fume dials in general it's got to be really really good to strike my fancy they make me fume But also, they were like, the colors were all, I mean, just like for me, I was like, I don't want a purple fumé. Like, this is such an elegant, like, watch. You know, you look at my watch box. It's all black, blue, and maybe white. right one or two white i've got a silver in there but it's silver tends towards the white like it's just i want austere stoic dials and purple fume isn't it and so we remarked we lamented at the time the lack of a more austere dial and that's that's what we're referencing when we say that andrew proceed i'm sorry we have uh white a a really lovely kind of
Andrew I'm not sure. What are they calling that? Fjord blue? Yeah, Fjord blue. Fjord blue. And I think that's a perfect descriptor of it. And Glossier blue. Yeah. That Fjord blue is lovely.
Everett I do like it a lot. It's really good. What are we going to call that? Like a cornflower? It doesn't have enough purple in it to be cornflower, but it's like maybe a ocean blue?
Andrew Fjord. Like the blue of a fjord. What's a fjord? Fjord. It's a water inlet. It's exactly like a fjord. Great silver markers.
Everett A fjord is a long, deep, narrow body of water that reaches far inland. Fjords are often set in a U-shaped valley with steep walls of rock on either side. Thank you. That's all I wanted to say. Haven't you seen Frozen? Yes. Yes. They talk about the fjord. I probably watched Frozen about 217 times.
Andrew So they talked about the fjord there. Okay. Anyway, because of the texture on these... Kicker boxes like these kicker box texture all over the dial. It creates such great reflection and shadow. It looks like you're there's eight different colors of blue.
Everett Yeah, but there's not. Yeah, it's like it's like a basket weave, but not really. It's like a basket weave that's comprised of the of the cross motif from the from the two flag logo.
Andrew That's why I call them kicker boxes because they look like street park kicker boxes.
Everett Kicker box. I maybe don't know what that is. The, the skate ramps. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That is what they look like. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Yeah. It's a really, it's a really beautiful dial and I agree with you. You get such a great variety of colors.
Andrew Fantastic. So, so pleased to see finally colors made for me. These are the same 12 pricing, 1,450 bucks. And I haven't talked to anybody who's bought Christopher Ward recently, but I don't know what that VAT import is into the U.S.
Everett I don't know either. I don't know either. You know, TBD on VAT and tariff. Watch industry tariffs. I've read some stuff recently that seems like we may get some relief. But yeah, these are terrific. I mean, it's the 12, right? So we don't need to go too deeply into what the Christopher Ward 12 is. But what you should know is it's a COSC certified VAT. integrated steel sport watch titanium sport watch titanium with specs and thinness and greatness. Um, These are just 12s. So they're titanium 12s with non-fumé dials. And if you like that kind of thing, then maybe check it out. I will say a couple things. One, they didn't do the 36 yet. And I think the 36-12 is a really terrific size of watch. And so I assume at some point we'll see that. But also... We still don't have like a black dial or an anthracite dial or, you know. TBA on those. Yeah. The white dial, of course, it does a lot of that austerity thing that I'm probably looking for. But I just think, give me this in like an anthracite, right? Like a very dark black. This isn't a big ask. Like, well, I just don't understand. I just don't really understand. And it must be, you know, I think Christopher Ward's doing a really good job sort of figuring out what people will buy. Because you're only going to buy one, maybe.
Andrew That's right.
Everett Yeah. And from my experience selling watches, you know, I thought, well, everybody's going to want black. And I wound up making too many black dials. It turns out not everybody wants black. That was just my opinion. Everyone wanted gray. Yeah. Well, yeah, everybody wanted orange and then everybody wanted green.
Andrew I'm everybody.
Everett I wanted gray. You just don't know. So I think Christopher Ward's doing a really good job connecting with the people that may buy the watches and trying to guess what they want. However, Christopher Ward holds a lot of stock. We know that. And so, like, hey, hey, hey, Mike, can we get a fucking black dial?
Andrew I don't know. Buy a white one and include a message. Just send me a black dial little fit. I'll swap it out.
Everett Yeah.
Andrew Yeah.
Everett This is a great move. And I'm not going to suggest that it's not. But Jesus fucking Christ. I want to talk about another watch that I got a problem with. Oh, weird. So, you know, Seiko, we've witnessed, I think you and I and all of us have witnessed kind of in very real time Seiko's sort of brand organization efforts. And I think not for nothing. Because Seiko was really sort of getting weird with it, right? They were disjointed. Circa 2019, it was really tough to sort of put a finger on Seiko. What does that mean? And now I think we've seen a really clear effort. We've got Seiko 5 Sports. We've got Seiko Presage. We've got Seiko Prospects. And then we've got an entirely different thing, which is Grand Seiko. And we've added King Seiko. And I think King Seiko maybe lives in a space in between Grand Seiko and Presage deliberately. And then, of course, you've got the random one-offs that exist in between. All that to say, I think Seiko's done a really good job organizing their releases. It's not that the releases themselves are any more... consistent or or that they track uh however seiko's done a good job of kind of just telling us where they expect a piece to exist um and and perhaps what we should expect from that piece seiko released a a watch they're calling the presage classic series um the classic series has existed for a while it's a segment within presage Sort of vintage or classically styled and dimensioned watches. And they've now released the Edo Silk models. And I hope that's how you say Edo. I think the only other possibility is Edo.
Andrew Yeah, I'm going to go with Edo also.
Everett Otherwise, they would have used an A. And so what these are, what these are is a 36 millimeter classic sport watch, really with a strong 60s inspiration. And I'm just going to start off by saying from... top down, I think that they have absolutely nailed this release. So we've got a seven link bracelet. It's not a beads of rice, nor is it a like it's more like a seven link jubilee because the links don't curve over like beads of rice. It's beautiful. The bracelet on these is beautiful. It probably isn't the highest quality bracelet because it's made by Seiko. Seiko Presage. but it's gorgeous, and it really matches the lines of this watch. This watch is gorgeous. The lugs sort of slightly turn in and have a polished bezel as they go in to the end link. The end link is female. The dials are perfect. It's sort of a brushed, a granularly brushed sunray. The markers are great. The hands are great. Gorgeous. The crown is... Amazing.
Andrew It is so perfectly 60s feeling. It is just slightly mismatched in the most perfect way from the rest of the lines, from the rest of the shapes of the case.
Everett Okay, let's keep talking this thing up. We've got a sapphire crystal. We've got a see-through case back, which... I don't know about it. We've got 100 meters of water resistance. We've got a 41.5 millimeter lug-to-lug, 41.4. Really, really tough. Really tough to... Oh, and the texture on the dial inspired by silk, which is why we get the Edo Silk naming. Really tough to criticize the top down on this, which I think... i think i mean i'm just not seeing anything i don't love uh 6r51 movement which is the no date 6r55 which is a terrific movement and they're like a thousand bucks which i think is a great price for these okay here's my and the gold pbd in gold pvd yeah yeah i mean we've got we've got silver with a sort of a antique fume white but we've also got a silver steel with a really classic white And I'm fine with all white dials on these. These feel very much like a white dial.
Andrew Oh, that is the first like fumé execution I've seen in a long time that I really like.
Everett I don't mind it.
Andrew It kind of looks like a sheet of paper that you put your coffee cup down on and it has just like a gentle coffee stain around the outside that just gently bled in.
Everett I actually think, Andrew, I actually think that it almost looks like the dial is domed up. And so you're getting slight shadows in the recess the way it's colored. I think you are, yeah. Here's the problem with these. They're 12.5 millimeters thick. And I know, so everybody, people actually don't like how much I concentrate on thickness. But I think here, I think here it's justified. Yeah. When I talk about watches being too thick, oftentimes it's a purely subjective requirement. However, for these watches, what I'm going to call a dress sports watch, and we don't have lume. I mean, I just don't think it's 100 meters of water resistance, but definitely leaning towards the dressy end of things at 36 millimeters. I think three to one. is an absolute maximum dimension, right? That's Datejust. that's OP that three to one is the maximum dimension. I think, I think that's an objective. These are going to wear thick. Now I have seen a side profile of these things and I will say they wear a lot of that thickness underneath the case. Okay. So the mid case sits pretty high. And so if you've got anatomy that allows a case back to rest down into that hollow on the top of your wrist, this might very well wear thin enough. And of course we don't have hands on yet. And, and so I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna write it off. I'm just going to say that number to me is alarming. It's not, it to me suggests that this watch might have a big problem because Because otherwise, I think it's great. And when I say a big problem, we're talking about a half a millimeter. But it's the type of thing that can really make or break a watch.
Andrew Especially at $1,000. Yeah.
Everett This isn't a Seiko 5 coming in at sub $500.
Andrew This is a $1,000 watch that we are seeing direct competitors in the 10 millimeter zone.
Everett Yeah, that's right. I mean, look at the Traska. The commuter? The commuter. Yeah, that's right. I mean, we know that getting a watch under that dimension is not impossible. Now, Seiko, very well known for having thick movements, and they don't shy away from that dimension. They don't shy away from that Z dimension, which is fine. That's sort of their thing. I think three to one on this watch, though, is the maximum. They had to get this thing under 12, I personally think. If we look, I'm going to try to pull up the case profile.
Andrew The commuter is 10.5 at the top of the crystal. At the top of the crystal. No, I know. I know. It's crazy. It's 875 to the top of the case. I'm going to go grab it real quick. So even with being 10.5, I'm holding the commuter right now. Because of that narrow 36 dimension, 10.5, this feels like a tall watch. And this is not a tall watch.
Everett Yeah, yeah. No, that's right, Andrew. I mean, it obviously... The OP is probably, or the Explorer, one of those two, is probably sort of the classic, the prototypical. And those both come in at about 12. But just 12, no more. And Rolex, we know that Rolex does ergonomics really well. That's part of what they're known for. Yeah, I don't think this wears thick at all. But I hear what you're saying. Because of its really small X dimension, that... The ratio matters. Yeah. You know, it's hard to say, well, if it was 12, I'd be okay with it. If it's 12 and a half, I'm not. But I think that is what I'm saying. And of course, I haven't tried it. So here's what I was talking about. So...
Andrew Yeah, it's going to hide a lot in the case back.
Everett There's a link. We're going to put two links to this watch in the show notes. There is a worn and wound, or maybe we'll just put that one in here. There's a view of the side profile where you can see that the case actually sits. The mid case is very high on the column, the movement holding portion. And so a lot of this sits underneath. That may take care of the issue, Andrew, honestly.
Andrew And so if you've tried this watch on... It all depends on how those lugs really wrap around your wrist.
Everett It looks to me like it may be okay. I just don't understand why Seiko doesn't say, you know what, for this watch, we need to get it thinner than 12.5. I just don't, I can't, I'm having trouble understanding it.
Andrew I mean, think of how many dive watches they never said, you know what, for this watch, we need to make sure the alignment's right.
Everett And we know Seiko can do it because every once in a while they have a random one-off watch that's like, oh, well, this is delightfully thin, Seiko. How the fuck did you do that? So yeah, they're clearly just not worried about that dimension. And I think that they're missing sales, right? I think that if this thing comes in at $1,000, $1,000, $655, beautiful, gorgeous.
Andrew I mean, this thing is like... Is it a limitation of that movement?
Everett I don't know how thick that movement is. Well, it's a thick movement. I think it's a four and a half. millimeter movement or it might even be five so that is a known issue right but if seiko can crunch crunch that get it down under 12 all of a sudden people are like i there's nothing to complain about right 12 and a half is just too thick for a 36 millimeter watch i think for this style of watch If it was a dive watch, if it was a GMT, if it's a chronograph, like whatever. But this watch, that's too thick in 2025. So long story short, love it. I love, love, love it. I think it may wear okay because of the way the case is arranged. I still think it's too thick. That's all I have to say about that.
Andrew All righty then. For the record, the size doesn't chafe me as much, but an extra two millimeters on a 36 millimeter watch is... It's big. It's meaningful. It's big. I want to talk about Serica.
Everett I like talking about Serica.
Andrew We have a Serica 5303 PLD limited edition for French Naval divers. And Serica is... Not just French Navy divers.
Everett French Navy EOD. Yeah.
Andrew Developed with the French Navy's EOD Divers Association, a COSC-certified 5303.
Everett And for those of you that don't know, EOD is Explosive Ordnance Disposal. It is, I would say, by a wide, wide margin, the most dangerous thing you can do in the military as a day-to-day job. I thought it was eat all day. Eat all day. There are things that you can do that are deadlier, but in terms of a day-to-day, this is what I do. I think it's the most dangerous thing you can do in the military. Agree? Disagree? Flying Blackhawks seems pretty dangerous these days. Yeah, fair enough.
Andrew But it is up there, right? I mean, in any military profession, very specialized roles are specialized for a reason because they tend to be pretty dangerous.
Everett EOD people die regularly in non-combat situations. Well, I guess Black Hawk pilots do too. Yeah, they work.
Andrew So here's something you're going to enjoy hearing. This is a 39 millimeter dive watch. 30 atmospheres of water resistance. Ready for the thickness number? 12.2 thick.
Everett I don't think I have any more thickness complaints for the rest of the day. Okay. Just for you at home, if you're like, turn them off.
Andrew Steel mesh bracelet with a nylon strap and signed hardware. Printed indices. Stainless steel case. And this is just lovely. Absolutely freaking terrific. Serica is... I think one of the few brands that you can look at pictures of all day, love the watch. I think, I think I put fairer in this category also that until you've actually seen one in person, you're just not getting the experience. They're absolutely phenomenal. Yeah. They were my, like the last time we went to wind up my absolute standout. This was the most impressive thing that I saw. And it was Sarah cause watches. Yeah. Um, and we saw a lot of really great watches. Um,
Everett You know, I feel like Serica is a slightly upscaled Laurier. I feel the same way about Serica that I do about Laurier. And, of course, they're not making the same watches. But I think that they're very much doing the same thing, which is they've captured a moment in watches. And they're like, this is what we do. When you get a watch from us, this is what you should expect. And the reason I compare the two is because I think that they're really capturing a lot of the same time periods and attitudes about watchmaking, but doing it at a slightly different price point. I mean, these are both still what I would call affordable watches. I mean, a lot of people... who may wind up with the Laurier are never going to look at something like a Serica because it is, we are well above that four figure threshold that I think is just most people like, yeah, never going to fucking happen, but they're doing a similar thing. They're doing it equally. Well, I love this watch. It's just a 5303. Yep. But it's just a limited edition one offshoot of a 5303. Yep.
Andrew Blue ceramic in the bezel. Uh,
Everett Yeah, it's like a blue ceramic and steel combination. Is that right?
Andrew Yeah. Really great. I like the 5303. And I like them. Yeah. Serica can do no wrong. They're only making 500 of these.
Everett So they've got this. So they call this the DT Max bezel. I don't really know what that is. It looks like it's giving you a couple of functions. So once it's giving you an elapsed time. measurement in a weird way in a way i've never seen before the elapsed time measurement is a five minutes nine minutes 15 minutes 20 35 40 50 and then dt max i i think i'm not sure i don't know enough about about what this is or what it's trying to do i also see that you've got a reverse scale 40 35 28 25
Andrew 20 to 20 18 at those marks i'm guessing that this is a decompression uh when i googled dt max timer it says that it refers to the t-max 3wg2 timer a popular digital timer used in the tanning industry to control tanning bed sessions i don't think that's what
Everett I think this is a decompression. I think this is a diving decompression. And I will just say, I looked a little bit and I couldn't find a good description of what this was.
Andrew It's because it's for tanning beds. That's why. You were looking in the wrong place.
Everett Anyway, I like it when companies do weird shit on the bezel. I don't even care that I don't know how to use it.
Andrew Like Bangalore.
Everett Whatever. Slide rules. The cricket timer. People would be like, what the fuck is that? It's kind of special. You wouldn't get it. I don't get it. You wouldn't either. Yeah. No, I think it's... Bangalore did the cricket timer, right? Yeah, it's Bangalore. It's great. I really like it. I don't have any problems with it.
Andrew I think it's cool seeing a brand as small as Serica doing specialty watches with not small organizations. I think it's cool to get a tap on the shoulder for them.
Everett Damn it, Andrew. I'm trying to figure out what I have that you didn't have. I know you didn't have this one. Because this one is a watch that actually came out two months ago. And we talked about it when we came out.
Andrew We talked about something similar to it and then you had to show it to me again.
Everett We talked about it when it came out. So this is the Mido Multifort 8-2 Crowns. And when it came out in, I guess, January-ish, or no, it was maybe a little bit, February, whatever, just a few months ago, we probably didn't spend enough time talking about just how great this watch is because there's a couple problems with this watch. One, it's a geometric bezel.
Andrew Sort of.
Everett It is, right? This is an octagonal bezel, integrated steel sport watch.
Andrew But it's an octagonal bezel that is beveled down to a circular bezel. Okay, all right. That's meaningful, right? That's different.
Everett I think it would be really easy to look at this and just write it off and be like, okay, integrated steel sport watch, octagonal bezel, sure, got it. But... I was reminded they released a new color of this. So when they released this back in February or March or whatever it was, they released it with two different iterations. One was a black dial with PVD-coated crowns. And this is an internal rotating bezel twin-stick shooter. So you've got a crown at four and a crown at two. I think these are actually like 210N crowns. 350. Yeah, that's right. Which actually is a criticism, but I'll get back to that. And they released this in black with PVD crowns. And they also released it in a lovely blue with a dark blue dial. with very dark navy, like Admiralty blue crowns. And that one only came on a rubber strap. Yeah, nonsense. It was just kind of weird. And I think we were just like, this is a really cool watch. And so here's what you need to know. This is a 40 millimeter watch with an integrated strap, nine and a half thickness. Nine and a half thickness on this thing. It's perfectly sized. It's gorgeous. You get a great amount of water resistance, 100 meters. It's light. It's 96 grams on rubber. And I want to say that it is like 110. On steel, I just had this. Okay, well, so that's more. That is more. But I just didn't like either one of these, which I think kind of caused us to not really talk about it a lot. So they released this in a color this week. Weird, right? I didn't see anything about this. I saw this from Vuk at It's About Time. He... posted about this. I've seen no one else talk about this. This is... What are they calling this? What are they calling this color, Andrew? It is like a very... Like teal. They're calling it gray. Gray. So you get seafoamy gray. Seafoam is perfect, Andrew. Thank you. I was looking for just such a thing. We've got a seafoam gray dial and bezel. And it is. Awesome. It's not PVD crowns. Nope. Steel crowns. This thing's awesome.
Andrew This is the gray I want. This is the gray dial I always want. It's not super saturated. There's like green flavors in it. There's like smoky white in it. This is it.
Everett All of a sudden, all of a sudden, and these things are cheap. This is... Well, okay.
Andrew It's 1,150 francs. Right.
Everett But, I mean, it's like, this is like Christopher Ward 12 pricing, right? I mean, we've got a sub 10... millimeter steel sports watch that has excellent dimensions. It's an integrated or an internal bezel, internal rotating bezel, a hundred meter. I love it. I love it. Yeah. I love this watch. This thing is so good. All of a sudden this kind of weird release from Mito is fucking super. An in-house caliber. Yeah. Yeah. Movement on this thing is great.
Andrew Yeah.
Everett So this is like the first time meta movement.
Andrew Really capturing my attention.
Everett I think it's the, whatever the upgraded 2892, whatever. Um, it's, it's not a Powermatic movement in here. You know what I don't like?
Andrew Tell me. I don't like the sign, like the signature on the rotor. Yeah. If that's just a rendering, I'm fine with it.
Everett Oh, you mean that's screen printed?
Andrew Yeah, Swiss watches since 1918.
Everett I think that that might be printed on the dial, Andrew. Or printed on the crystal. I don't know that for sure, but I think that that might be printed on the crystal. Either way, I'm with you. I don't like it.
Andrew I don't like that.
Everett I don't like it either way.
Andrew You've got Swiss made on the front. You don't need a reminder on the back.
Everett Beautiful watch. Beautiful construction. Really interesting. Really interesting with the two crowns. This is great. All of a sudden, this kind of quirky release from... I mean, if they had released with this version, I think we would have been like, stop the presses. Mido is awesome. And I think when they released this, the episode title for that week was, We Like Mido Now? Because we did like the watch, but also we were like, yeah, this is kind of... this is great. If they don't release this with that original batch, I think I'd have been like, fuck guys, just stop what you're doing and go buy this watch, sell everything, get this one. I think it's terrific.
Andrew It's, it's good. It is good.
Everett I mean, it's, we, we need to put together, we need to put together a list of the steel sports watches, the, the integrated steel sports, but this style, we need to put together a list of like what you can get at what price and what you should ignore. Right?
Andrew Yeah.
Everett All right, what's next?
Andrew Next up, the Marathon Navigator. Blue bezel. Not a big deal, but also kind of a big deal. This is the first time Marathon's branching out with like a non-unit specific or organization specific Navigator that I can think of. And they're just putting a blue bezel on it. It looks good. I love the steel Navigator. Every time we talk about Marathon, I'm like, God, how do I not have a Navigator? And ultimately the reason is because they're, Yeah, a thousand bucks. And they have a little bit of overlap in my watch box that I just am not ready to do overlap on. I don't. I don't know why, because I love this watch. I love the Navigator. Yeah. But it now has a blue bezel insert, and that's the big change.
Everett Yeah, I saw on Reddit, there was a post recently. It's like, which watch brands are just overrated, period. And Marathon featured on there, and I thought, you know, I can see it. I understand... Marathon's not overrated at all.
Andrew They're not even rated.
Everett Don't argue with me before I've made my point.
Andrew Jeez Louise. That fired me up.
Everett I yelled at you a little. You know, we get... They're sort of pricey. Marathon watches are pricey. I think that at every... I mean, they sell well-dimensioned quartz watches. Their automatics tend to be very thick. The search and rescue watches have a tremendous amount of distance between the crystal and the dial. So I can sort of see like a traditional watch. Hold the fuck on. I still want one though. I can see a sort of traditional watch enthusiast like seeing these things, getting these things in hand and being like. I don't see it. Like this isn't what I want out of a watch. And in fact, I know people that have had that experience. My friend Thomas had that experience. He was like, this isn't what I want to watch, but I don't, I don't agree that they're overrated. I just think they're doing a different thing.
Andrew Yeah.
Everett And that is never been more apparent to me than in reading four articles that talk about how this is the first time marathons ever drifted from black in the navigator series. Um, I think this is great. It's a quartz movement, right?
Andrew Yeah, it's a Navigator.
Everett It's a Navigator, which has got great dimensions, really thick.
Andrew What is it, 11 thick? 11 thick, 41 millimeter case, 48 lug to lug, 10 atmospheres, tritium indices. High accuracy quartz.
Everett Yeah. It's the press drive at a HAQ movements. Really cool. Really cool. Really cool, Andrew. I'm just not going to... I might get a resin poo-poo navigator this year. Yeah, we've talked about, I think we've said that on the show, both of us. Maybe we'll just go joint custody on one. It's not the worst idea you've ever had. Well, I mean, I think we could go joint custody on a bunch of watches. Just be like, hey, do you want to swap out joint custody watches? Yeah, this thing's terrific. I love it. Is it my turn? It is your turn.
Andrew Yeah, it is. Look at how good this desert sand is, though. I don't know if I want to go joint custody with you. I think I just want it.
Everett Okay, go ahead. I mean, they're affordable, right? They're $450. Wow, okay. That's actually a lot of money for that. Okay. I'm going to talk about Yemma. Yemma, which you dick can do no wrong. No, they can't. Yemma can do no wrong. So they've released what they're calling the Granville... caliber manufacturer, more toe 0.20 collection, Granville being the differentiating factor. Yamaha does the thing. We're going to bring an old watch. We're going to bring an old watch back to market. This is not that. This is brand new, never happened before, and yet looks old and new and vintage and modern. And... Micro rotor. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So CMM 0.20 micro rotor, very thin, which means this is a, it's not a TV dial, but I'm going to say TV-ish. You know what it is? Case. What? It's a steel 5600 case. Yeah. It's fair enough. Yeah. So this is a square G shock in steel. Yeah. 39 millimeters by 8.6 thick. So I said earlier, I think I'm not going to complain about thickness again for the rest of the day. And now you're just. I'm not going to complain about it. Obviously, we're getting this. This is a. So what are we going to say about this? That they've based this on Granville Palace in Besançon, which is a 16th century Renaissance building that houses the Museum of Time. Okay. I don't know much about Grand Val Palace. Or time. I feel like France maybe know more about it. All right. This is an, I'm going to say Art Deco dial. Are you okay with that?
Unknown Ah.
Everett Yeah. Okay. I'm going to say Art Deco, but architectural is fine as well. We get these sort of pyramid, elongated pyramid markers. But the markers are in-cut.
Andrew I'm looking at shadows on these, and the shadows, this is... Oh. These are cut into this chapter ring.
Everett Oh, you're right, I think, Andrew.
Andrew If you look at this picture, this is the one, because I've been, since I saw this, I've been looking at them, and if you look at that angle... They're cut in. Against the inside of the case. They're in-cut into this... Chapter ring. Whoa. So the way they reflect light is fascinating because they're inverse to what you would typically see a marker doing.
Everett Whoa. Okay, we've got an asymmetrical... guilloche-like pattern that emanates, I believe, from the center of the small seconds, which are located at 9 o'clock. It's just weird. It looks like a ripple effect. And I like it. Because they're concentric guilloche. We've got coin edge on the side of the case, making this look like a much more expensive watch than it actually is. It's beautiful. I will say there's a lot of horology stuff that they've done that they faked, which might bother some people. Yes. They're faking a lot of this, which is okay. Which is okay because it's a great watch. It's beautiful. You don't ever have to talk about, oh, well, it's stamped. Nobody's going to say, hey, is that engine turned? Is that hand turned? No, it's fucking stamped. Leave me alone. This beautiful, beautiful micro rotor movement that demands, insists on a see-through case back. Granted. Yeah. Rodium plated bridges, galvanized Cote de Genève. Terrific.
Andrew Yema just is... They are hitting on everything right now.
Everett $2,000 including that to Europe. I don't know how much this costs here. And do you know, Andrew? Um... If we wanted to buy this.
Andrew 2,000 euros? Fuck. 2,500 bucks maybe if we have to buy it.
Everett 1990. You can get this for 2,000 bucks. But we're still having to pay import taxes these days. No US tariff impact prices stay the same.
Andrew Yeah, to them. You have to pay. It's like when you buy a Christopher Ward. You have to pay the fucking ransom at customs. I'm not sure, man. They're not charging you customs fees. You get a bill from U.S. Customs.
Everett Okay, well, your mileage may vary. I'm not sure. Maybe you know. I don't know. This comes in green, blue, and black. Each of them are terrific. I don't have a lot more to say about this except that the black is the way to go. Yeah, the black's really good. The blues, they're all really good. They're all good. The blue and black are both good.
Andrew Yeah, this is really cool. Yeah, man. Way to go. Nailed it. These engraved indices are some of the coolest shit I've ever seen.
Unknown Yeah.
Everett And I will say the photos, so there are some hands-on photos of this thing. I'm a little curious about the case finishing because in their renders, it looks really, really good. And then I've seen a few photos that are like, is that as good as it looks? So a little bit of YMMV there too, I guess. is this going to be Sapphire? It's Sapphire. Yeah. Yeah. It's Sapphire. Bro. If they sold a 2000, if Yama sold a $2,000 watch with mineral glass, people would make shit.
Andrew Uh, it's just the renderings that they didn't. Yeah. It doesn't matter. Uh, that's such a flat, flat crystal surface. I wonder, I'm just thinking of the smudge rate on it. It's gotta be, it's gotta be Sapphire. Uh,
Everett Oh yeah, it has to be. Where are we at right now? Cause I know we have a, we're at 26 minutes and 32 seconds from our little break. Do you remember where we were? No break.
Andrew Cool. Um, it's our show. Uh,
Everett Andrew, I would estimate that we are at about 45 minutes.
Andrew I'd probably guess also. I've got to say, I'm not super excited about anything else I have on the list.
Everett Well, there's two more watches that I think we've got to talk about. And so why don't we start with the 39 millimeter launching legend diver. Now, it's a reasonable place to start with an icy white dial. And when I say icy white, Andrew, I mean, holy shit. Get me a sweatshirt because I'm freezing.
Andrew yeah it's it's as clean a white as you can get and especially because of how big this dial is it's a 40 or it's it's a 39 millimeter case but it's all dial although this this dial belongs in a 45 millimeter watch
Everett And when we say all dial, we mean all dial and internal rotating bezel because this is a twin stick. It is an internal rotating bezel. However, it feels very much like it is a 40 millimeter watch with a 46 millimeter.
Andrew Because the... The angle on that internal rotating bezel is so low that it reflects light up and it just keeps sucking up space on that dial. You don't get a hard angle that will pull light in. It's just all reflective, icy white surface. I think that the, so this shit would charge the loom in the indices with moonlight.
Everett You know, photos be damned. I'm looking at pictures of this. And I mean, we are looking at. like absolute perfect high contrast white and black with just touch, just a touch of green on the loom. It is excellent. The color on this is excellent. Launching Legend Diver is a watch you don't hear a lot about, but I think is really, really good. Almost underrated, perhaps.
Andrew Certainly underrated. If you ever considered buying a Hamilton khaki navy, stop that. Look at something like this. It's twice as much. Maybe more than that. I mean, these are expensive.
Everett These are four grand. Yeah.
Andrew This Longines diver fits within the entire Longines ecosystem in such a beautiful way. This could be any other Longines watch at a distance. You recognize it immediately as Longines.
Everett Yeah. We've got the L88, which I think is, I don't want to say that. Yeah, it's a Longines-branded movement. I think this is a beautiful watch. It is too much money, I think. It's $4,000, and I don't mean it's objectively too much money. I'm not going to buy it at $4,000.
Andrew It's expensive for a 300-meter internal rotating bezel.
Everett At $2,400 retail and $1,900 secondary, I'm like, I maybe got to get this. For me, it's just outside.
Andrew But it's Longines, right?
Everett Again, I'm not saying it's objectively too much money. I'm just saying for me, there's other things.
Andrew It's a miss for my pocketbook as well. At four grand, there's other things I want above this, but I can't criticize the watch. You know what else is a miss for me? This model picture where they didn't size the bracelet for him. He's having to balance it on his wrist.
Everett Yeah. It's a really cool watch. And that dial, I just, I am absolutely stunned along the way by that beautiful dial. Okay. So now I think we need to talk. We're not going to talk about the Railmaster, you guys. We're just not going to talk about it. No. Because it's fine. It's beautiful. It's really cool. Railmaster has been an Aqua Terra for about forever, 15 years. So I've heard some complaints, oh, it's just an Aqua Terra. Literally, at some point in the teens, Omega released a 15,000 Goss. aqua terra that was their rail master right they didn't call it a rail master and then they brought back the rail master after that the the rail master has always been the aqua terra they released a new rail master it's got polish on it people like it's always been an aqua terra we said we weren't going to talk about it and here we are talking about it moving on
Andrew Just a quick thing. I've not ever heard of a watch coming from Slovakia. The Biatek Majestic Chronoshop 09. I don't super dig the watch really in any capacity. No, I don't like it. Um, it's a 40 millimeter 11.6 thick with a Salita 200 movement. Um, I think what I liked to see was a Slovakian watch coming to market. They're only making nine, right? It's a really small watch. small company that's founded in 2016, but I'm liking to see the proliferation of small watch brands getting their watches to market throughout the world. I think that's good for everyone. That's why I have this one on my list.
Everett Okay. Yeah, it looks like a Hamilton to me. It looks like a Hamilton with a homemade guilloche dial to me. That's exactly what it looks like to me. Gerard Perregaux. Okay. Gerard Perregaux. They make expensive watches. They can. And they make, I think, stodgy watches. Often. They released a re-release from... I've read both 69 and 71, so there's some sort of conflict in the dating of this re-release. They've teamed up with Bamford to release what they're calling the Deep Diver Legacy something. Anyway, it is a remake of the 7254, which is a super funky 1970-ish EPSA-cased diver sold by Gerard Perregaux. So I wasn't able to find from the materials I accessed whether or not this was a super compressor. It was EPSA, and it was a twin stick. So I'm guessing this was a super compressor-cased diver from 1970. Looks like a duck. Talk to you about it. Um, it was a hundred fathoms, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Uh, really weird. Watch funky 1970 internal rotating bezel. Just funk, just P funk kind of roulette parliament. Yes. This watch that Gerard Perico releases today and is selling for, let's just get this out of the way. 15-1. Yeah. Okay. So this watch, which is very, very similar to that watch, is awesome. It looks just like the one from 1970, which is why I wonder. Why do you need Bamford to make this watch? I don't get it. This is a co-branded release. Maybe Bamford came to them?
Andrew Maybe they flipped through the catalog and they're like, hey, we like this. We want to make this with you? Maybe. This feels like Bamford, right? I mean, maybe somebody at Bamford is just flipping through.
Everett catalogs and sees this and is like we gotta do this again there's a so there must be a relational aspect to this release that we don't really know about because like you know andrew if you came to me and you were like hey, Everett, I want to change your name to Everett. You want to do that together? We can announce it as a team. Like we're changing Everett's name to Everett. But I want some of the proceeds. Right? So there must be like, they must have like gotten together and they said, let's do something together. Let's look through your catalog and find a watch. And say, okay, yeah, let's do that. And they're like, well, look at this. Let's release this. That's got to be it. Because outside of that, this is just, yeah, this is just the same watch that they did with some differences, right? We've got this great orange lume on the hands and the markers. That glows blue. We got cool colorways. This is a really neat watch. It's expensive. I'm not going to complain that it's too thick.
Andrew I'm not. I'm giving you what's called a pregnant pause to let you mull that over.
Everett And then ultimately decide to... 38 millimeters wide, 40.3 long, 13.91 thick. It's a 200 meter dive watch. And it's a chunky monkey from the 70s. And that seems all appropriate. It does not have a super compressor case. But it is a twin stick.
Andrew I mean, super compressor technology is kind of... Totally dead. Dead. It's dead. It has no more. It doesn't need it to exist. It doesn't need it.
Everett Christopher Ward is the only one doing that. And as far as I know, there might be somebody else. There's got to be. But it's more of a novelty than anything else. Correct. Correct. Because it's cool. It's really cool. It's cool shit. It's titanium. It's got a titanium buckle. It's neato. I really like this watch. I'm not going to buy it because it's too expensive for me. But it's cool. I love it. You could find something similar, I'm sure. First comment on the Fratello. Is it just me or those hands have zero legibility? Oh, no. Moving. You got anything else?
Andrew No, I closed the link. Okay.
Everett Andrew, other things. What do you got?
Andrew Oh, I have another thing. So my older son turned 10 this last weekend. I had five additional nine and 10 year old boys in my house. So it was loud. And I just wanted to put headphones in and listen to something. I didn't really want to listen to music. I just wanted something in my ears. And I was like, oh, wait, wait.
Everett I fucked that up and I know I did it. No, that's not what I wanted. What do we have here?
Andrew Andrew, other things. What do you got? I have another thing. So my older son turned 10 this last weekend and it meant that I had five extra nine and 10 year old boys in my house for a sleepover. So it was loud. And I wanted to put headphones in and just like silence the fucking chaos that was my home. Cause you can only tell six, 10 year olds to be quiet so many times before you realize it's totally futile. So I was like, Oh fuck. Okay. I put my headphones in. I didn't really feel like listening to music cause I was doing stuff and I was like, Oh, I have a bunch of audible books. So I started a book by an author named Ron Chernow. Ron Chernow, of course, a famous biographer, historical nonfiction writer. I started Titan, the life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. And his foreword is basically like, you know, the publishing company came to me and was like. we'd like you to write a biography on Rockefeller. And he kind of scoffs at the idea. He's like, to be the hundredth one? Like, why do you want me to do this? And he starts his research into this project and finds that though there were hundreds of biographies written about John D. Rockefeller, Most of them were kind of lacking. because Rockefeller was such a personal, like introverted guy and a very private guy that there wasn't a lot of work done beyond what you could very easily do. So he set out to write a biography that created a more holistic picture of this Titan of industry. And I gotta say, I've, I've read several of Chernow's books. He did, what did he do? I have him up. I read Hamilton. I read Grant. I read Washington. So now I'm on to... Rockefeller, and it's fantastic. He's such a great writer. I forget who's narrating it. I can tell they did use some AI in the narration because every once in a while you get a word, like a homophone, that's used in the wrong emphasis. So the one that I remember hearing yesterday was short-lived in lieu of short-lived. I was like, oh, interesting. So I'm curious. I'm wondering how much Audible is using AI voice recreation for narration of especially long books. This is a 17 hour audio book.
Everett Yeah, I don't know the answer to that question. That's interesting. I don't think I've heard. I don't think I've personally.
Andrew I've heard three and I'm about four hours in.
Everett Interesting. Do they disclose that it's AI narrated?
Andrew Not that I have heard. But it's a guy, right?
Everett When you said not, that made me think that you were.
Andrew I was going to say no, but I can't definitively say no because I haven't listened to it. I thought it was because you were AI.
Everett We are actually doing this show via AI right now.
Andrew Yeah, there's enough probably audio samples of us to do entire episodes narrated by us. Without our presence. Not only is there, there just is. But Chernow's fantastic. I love his biographies.
Everett Chernow, I think most people, if you know the name, it's probably because Lin-Manuel Miranda's play, Hamilton, is based in large part on Chernow's biography of Alexander Hamilton.
Andrew Yeah, very much so.
Everett fantastic writer the narration is great barring any sort of because of the play had like a moment in time where a publisher might come to him and be like what can you do i don't know hang on let me see what can you do for us so 2004 is when he released his hamilton biography and titan came out in 98 Oh, so this is even before that.
Andrew Chernow has been writing books since... Let's pull up his published works. 1990, House of Morgan. 93, The War Bugs. 97, Death of the Banker.
Everett Okay, so maybe I am projecting some of my unfamiliarness with biography writers on the... Hamilton came out in 2005.
Andrew Washington in 2010 Grant in 2017 and in 2025 there's a Mark Twain which I will be buying Washington's really good Hamilton they're all really really good he does you know at least for somebody who's relatively unfamiliar with the topic, very well-researched books. I'm not going to go and fact-check his research because that's why I'm listening to his book. Right, you're not in the industry of fact-checking. Historians? Historians, yeah. No, I did start watching Graham Hancock's season two of Ancient Apocalypse or whatever. Okay. And as I'm watching it, I'm watching it with my wife and she's like, how is this like not like, what do you, what do you mean this is debunked? And I'm like, well, he's fun to watch because as he's making wild claims, you can Google alongside him and so easily fact check like, Oh yeah, no, I love the questions he asked. Like he's, he is wildly provocative. Uh, he has interesting questions and I think those are important questions to be asking. We're now off of turnout. Hold on to Graham Hancock. Um, Yeah. But I don't feel the need to fact check Ron Chernow like I didn't do Graham Hancock.
Everett Yeah. Yeah. No, that's that's fair. Yeah. He's he's probably making some poetic license, but doing so in a way that that you feel comfortable with.
Andrew Yeah, because nothing is is out is out there. He's not like and guess what? Johnny Rockefeller, he actually he invented oil. And then because he didn't want to get too rich, he shared it with a couple people.
Everett Andrew, I've got another thing. Do me. And before I start, I want to say I'm going to cheat just a little bit. I started the newest season of Handmaid's Tale, which I didn't even realize had come out. And we watched a primer to kind of catch up because it's been a long time. And we're only a couple episodes in, but so far.
Andrew Did you say that word wrong on purpose to make it seem like we're AI? Which one? You said primer.
Everett No, that's how I say that word. Primer.
Andrew I say primer.
Everett Okay, you're AI with proof. We've done it. Wait, wait, chat. Primer or primer. Anyway, I'm only a few episodes in. I'm enjoying it already. So just that's it. Okay, but now I'm going to move on to my actual other thing. I think I have found, yeah, no, you're right, things. Because I think, Andrew, I let you try this. I let you try this the other day. But I think I found my favorite whiskey. And that's a bold statement, right? For someone who's only been into whiskey for a little bit. And admittedly, I've only been into whiskey for a little bit. But you've gone deep.
Andrew I went really deep. As Everett is known to do, he went very hard in the paint. Carl Malone elbows out there clearing space.
Everett Everett's got $2,000 worth of somewhat hard-to-get whiskey in his cabinets. Yes, true. That's an understatement. No, that's about right. I did the math the other day. Oh, did you? So a couple caveats to that statement. One, this is readily available, or at least... readily available. Right. So there are some whiskeys that are very hard to get that I'm not going to speak on.
Andrew You haven't gotten anything on the secondary market. I've not bought any secondary market.
Everett That's right. Yeah. So this is something that you, that I can get. I could go out in Eugene and get several bottles of this today at Mark at MSRP. So I'll just within that, within that clarification, this is my favorite accessible whiskey. So what it is, is will it's, Will It is an old company that started distilling their own whiskey again. sometime around 2010. So they were an old distillery. They made booze. They stopped making booze. They started making booze again. If you look at their releases, they seem seamless. However, we do know industry-wide, there's knowledge that Willett started releasing their own boozes. That they made, again, circa like 2013, 14 timeframe from whiskeys that they distilled in the 2010 timeframe. And since then, they've slowly started converting everything to their own house-made stuff.
Unknown Mm-hmm.
Everett They have a rye whiskey and it is in a sort of wine looking bottle with a green foil at the top, green top. And this is their four year. It looks like a wine label even. Yes, it does. This is their four-year family rye. Willett, I think, has six mash bills. This is made from their high rye and their barely legal rye mash bill, a combination of the two. So you get a lot of that high rye characteristic. really spicy, really hot, but then their other mash bill has a much bigger portion of corn.
Andrew And so you get some really... So the barely legal is because it's 51% rye in that mash bill.
Everett Correct. That's barely legal rye.
Andrew So the barely legal is 51% rye, 34% corn, 13% barley. The high rye is 74% rye, 11% corn, 15% barley.
Everett And I will say, so this is a rye whiskey, and it is very much a prototypical rye whiskey, but I think it leans in to the rye in a way a lot of rye whiskeys don't, which is to say they really are embracing... that like licorice, fennel, lemon. It's got like, I told you, I said to you, I feel like it's got like a Dr. Pepper flavor to it, which is not exactly right, but it's almost got like a carbonated mouthfeel.
Andrew Almost medicinal.
Everett Very medicinal. Not even almost, very medicinal. And it's 90% high rye and 10% of their barely legal. So the 10% is clearly there just to smooth things out. But when I say the word medicinal, I think a lot of people would be like, I don't want that. You want it.
Andrew Medicinal in the way Dr. Pepper was medicinal. Correct. Or in the way like gin is medicinal. Like it's this really like grass clipping, like kind of Saison-y, not Saison flavor profile, but that same kind of like, what is this flavor doing in here experience?
Everett It's 110 proof entry. It's 110 entry proof, which means when it goes in the barrel at exactly 110. It comes out at whatever it comes out. It's sold at cask strength. So you're getting this probably small batch, although they don't exactly say those words, which I'm fine with because it's a meaningless word. But anywhere from 110 to 115 proof in the bottle, and they're marked individually. Maybe not individually, but they're marked in batches. It is by far my favorite non-heavily allocated liquor I've ever had in my life. And I love it. It's really good. I love it. I've been buying... I just bought a bottle, like a backup bottle, even though I'm kind of like...
Andrew This stuff.
Everett Because it's so good, Andrew.
Andrew Start putting them in your closet, like on top of your shoe shelf.
Everett That's what I need to do. I just need to buy as many of these as I can and put them away. Because I think this is the best booze that you can buy on the market right now today. That you can buy. Go to the liquor store. You can buy Will It For You Rye. Yeah, you can. Buy it. There's eight bottles on the shelf. And it's $70. Yeah. Maybe not eight bottles. They've got a couple in the back, and they've got one on the shelf. It's the best. It's my favorite. We could dig a cellar under your garage. I've got a crawl space. No, no, no. We could dig a cellar. Well, I just put the fucking cellar in the crawl space. I've got a crawl space. How big? Big. Standing room. Really? Oh, yeah. Let's do that. I could fucking finish it if I wanted to. It wouldn't be like you'd have to... It wouldn't be street legal. You wouldn't be able to jump up and down down there, but I could definitely finish my... I've got a crawl space. Mine is not that deep. Yeah, I can stand on mine. You can't stand at it on the left side of the house, but you can stand on the right side. We just build a cellar down there. Let's do it. I mean, we could. This booze... It's phenomenal. It's really, really good. I gave you some the other day. So here's what I'll say. I've read some reviews that are not as high on it as I am, so I think there may be some subjectivity to it. But I'm just blown away every time I drink it. I told you the other day when we drank it, I said it reminds me of... The barrel's sort of entry-level seagrass. So barrel sells seagrass in a couple of different iterations. It reminds me of their entry-level seagrass, which is a heavily finished booze. This is not finished. Which makes it all the weirder that it finishes like seagrass.
Andrew It kind of reminds me of like... It's going to have a moment in the sun. It will not be... available in the in the quantities it's available i don't know it's been around for years people just don't know about it or think about it it's just like the way weller used to buy there used to be cases of it available because there was it was 40 bucks and no one knew about it then covid happened and everyone got into whiskey because nobody had to go anywhere so our you and i we have a local
Everett liquor store. And the guy who runs it is a very whiskey knowledgeable 30-year-old. He does the whiskey bit of things, yeah. He's 30, right?
Andrew If.
Everett Yeah. He's very knowledgeable and he got this in and he was like, we just got this in. And I was like, oh yeah, I got it at home. You need to get that. And I bought a bottle from him, a backup bottle. And I went back in and I was like, have you tried that? And he's like, no, I still haven't tried it. I'm like, dude, you gotta try it. he just this is a whiskey he is an absolute whiskey nerd and he just hadn't tried it and he wasn't interested and i kind of like had to like pressure him getting it did you crack the bottle right there in the store and give him a taste i should have and then he finally got some he was like dude i had no clue people just are sleeping on will it for your family rye it's terrific and now you're ruining it for all the rest of us well whatever nobody listens to our show this is There's like 1,500 people that are going to be tainted by this. Just us. Not even our moms anymore. It's trash. All right. That's all I got. Anything else you want to add before we go for the day? You had two. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. No, no. I'm not going to wait. I had Weller Full Proof at a steakhouse. I was going to ask if you had it at home. I was going to come over. I had Weller Full Proof at a steakhouse, and I paid $25 for a drink of it, which is a lot of money.
Andrew Yeah, for a $40, $80 bottle.
Everett I've never had it. I've always wanted to try it. Where'd you have it? It's on Obtanium, Kennedy. And it's unobtainium, but I had it, and I was like, I see. I see. I don't think it's worth the $200 that you have to pay for it on the secondary market, but if you ever get an opportunity to buy Weller Full Proof at something like $100... It's probably more worth $200 on secondary market than Johnny Blue is at primary market. Oh, yeah.
Andrew Oh, yeah. No, no.
Everett Yeah. If you're going to spend $200, yeah. I mean, scotch versus whiskey, obviously, but... It is phenomenal. I was blown away by how much I enjoyed it. It's Weller, aka Pappy. So terrific. But I was blown away. I was like, yeah, no, I see it. I see it now. I've had other readers that people say, oh, this is like, no, no. There's a reason you can't find Weller anywhere because for the money that they sell it at, it's just astoundingly good. Weller foolproof. Blue label Weller. If you can find it, buy it. Anything with a Weller label, buy it. Yeah, yeah.
Andrew Don't buy Special Reserve at... A hundred bucks. No, don't buy anything secondary market. No, special reserve is great.
Everett But if you can find it at 30 bucks. And the antique was really good. We both found special reserve this week at 30 bucks.
Andrew I found and sent to you. I was sitting at my house and I started getting my shoes on. My wife's like, what are you doing? I was like, I have to go to the liquor store. She's like, what do you mean you have to go to the liquor store? I was like, there's an obtainium at the store. Don't ask questions.
Everett Yeah. You know, Special Reserve is great. It's a really good entry-level whiskey. It's not worth the $100 that you pay for it on secondary. But if you can get it at under $50, just a great buy. But the Foolproof is really special. I was blown away by it. I never had it. Finally had it. You said you've had Antique. I've never had the Antique. Antique's good. Also, a really highly regarded booze. If you can find Weller at something close to MSRP, it's always going to be worth it. Maybe even a little bit above. But don't pay $100 for a special reserve. That's a bad idea. Yeah, don't do that. Unless you really just want half the bottle. In which case, do what you're going to do. Andrew, anything else you want to add before we go?
Andrew No, I'm out of things, man.
